Father Kosmas Karavellas is the presiding priest of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, Maryland. Originally from Montgomery County, Maryland, Father Kosmas has a deep passion for nurturing spiritual growth and fostering a welcoming parish community. He leads with compassion, dedication, and a strong commitment to the Orthodox Christian faith.
Father Kosmas graduated from the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in 1981 and was ordained a Deacon that same year. Later that year, in October 1981, he was ordained to the priesthood. Shortly thereafter, he began his ministry at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Palos Hills, Illinois, where he served faithfully from December 1981 until his move to Annapolis.
In August 1986, Father Kosmas and his family relocated to Annapolis, where he became the beloved presiding priest of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church. He played a central role in opening the current parish campus in 1996, ensuring the continued growth of the parish community and its ministries. Since then, he has been instrumental in expanding the Church’s spiritual, youth, and outreach ministries. His commitment to strengthening the parish community has had a lasting impact, with a focus on spiritual growth, service to others, and creating a welcoming environment for all.
Father Kosmas is dedicated to sharing the Orthodox faith with the next generation and has a deep passion for youth ministry. He offers guidance through sermons, catechism classes, and personal counseling, always aiming to help others strengthen their relationship with Christ. He also prioritizes community engagement, actively participating in charitable initiatives and outreach programs.
Father Kosmas is married to Presbytera Star, and together they have a daughter and two grandchildren. Their family is deeply involved in parish life and is a vital part of the Church's spiritual and community activities.
