Sunday Catechism School
Welcome “Little Church!”
“Let the children come to me.” Matthew 19:14
“The holiest blessing is to be parents. The main job is to be a great mother or a great father. To teach their children the Orthodox way of life.”
-Father Kosmas Karavellas
The Church for nearly 2000 years calls the family the Little Church. St. John Chrysostom in a sermon wrote, “Every Christian family ought to be as if it were a little church consecrated to Christ, and wholly influenced and governed by His rule.”
In the Mystery of Holy Matrimony a husband and wife love and care for each other and their children. The catechism school does not replace, but supplements your efforts of teaching your children in your home. Foremost is teaching our children by example in living our life in the Church. St. Ignatius wrote in the third century, “The things that parents teach their children can not have any weight unless they are the first to practice them.”
St. Peter wrote to the early church to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is our personal goal as a parent. This is our goal for our children. This is our hope for our children’s children.
